01 About the course

Higher National Certificates are one year full-time and or part-time qualifications designed to allow the student, who is new to tertiary education, to gain an understanding of the basic fundamentals of their chosen subject area. They act as an underpinning qualification for further study in the particular field chosen.

Students who complete an HNC (with the requisite subject profile) may transfer onto the first year of an Honours degree or onto professional qualifications.

04 Professional Accreditation and Exemptions

QQI AwardGraduates are exempt from a number of the examinations of professional bodies. In particular Graduates of the three year programme are exempt from Papers F1-F3 of the Association of Certified, Chartered Accountants ACCA

05 Career Prospects

The course gives all-round business management skills as well as specialist knowledge of finance and accounting. Many graduates pursue careers as accountants and openings are available as management trainees in manufacturing, banks, government agencies and the public sector.
