01 About the course
Higher National Diplomas are two year full-time and or part-time qualifications designed to allow students to progress academically in the field of study of their choice. They act as a springboard to further qualifications either on undergraduate degree programmes and or professional qualifications.
Students who complete an HND (with the requisite subject profile) may transfer onto the final year of an Honours degree or onto professional qualifications.
02 Course Content
Marketing, Managing Financial Resources and Decisions, Organisations and Behaviour, Business Environment, Common Law 1, Business Decision Making, Business Strategy, Research Project.
Human Resource Management, Human Resource Development, Managing Human Resources, Employee Resources.
04 Professional Accreditation and Exemptions
The HND in Business and HRM is recognised by all the HRM and Personnel professional bodies. These include The Chartered Institute of Personnel (UK) The Institute of Personnel Development (Ireland),
05 Career Prospects
Whilst the HNDs are designed specifically for students to progress onto degree programmes, if a student would prefer at this stage to enter the work place, then many employees would have positions in their companies for HND Graduates on the basis that they would continue their educational pathway on a part-time programme. Many students would continue their educational pathway with a BA (Honours) in Business Studies, majoring in HRM. (See BABS for information on this degree)
Higher National Diplomas
We would recommend the Higher National Diplomas for prospective students who may not want to commit to a three year or four year degree programme at this time. These two year programmes allow the student to graduate with the HND qualification and then if they would like to progress onto a degree programme they may do so.
